Aston Hill

Restoration underpinning Shropshire Timber Framing Zinc roofing shrewsbury

Aston Hill was a former cottage, set in the rolling countryside west of Shrewsbury. The clients wished to create a much larger and more open living space along with a studio for the owners to work in.

Environmentally friendly construction and sustainability were crucial to the wishes of the clients and their architects. The site, some way from the nearest road and reached via a track, impassible to heavy vehicles, would require a flexible, fully equipped building company with the skills to construct much of the building and the detail on site.

The chosen method of construction, timber frame from engineered beams, will achieve superb thermal performance but normally elements of timber framed buildings are factory built. Because of the transport difficulties, each 7 metre section of engineered timber along with all the other building materials would have to be hauled up the track by 4 wheel drive vehicles and dumper trucks before the on site build could begin.

The finished building however, is a magnificent conjunction of the old style cottage and the new modern building. The large open spaces within, enjoying panoramic views of the local countryside and the rolling hills
